ADAPTIVE AQUATICS

The Cumming Aquatic Center partners with Neverland, a company that provides the Adaptive Aquatics of Georgia program, Georgia’s premier adaptive swim program designed specifically for children, teens, and adults with disabilities.  Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of death for children with autism and other disabilities?  Children are naturally drawn to water, especially those with Autism, Down Syndrome, and other sensory processing disorders, but many children and parents underestimate the risk of an accident actually occurring.  This is why Adaptive Aquatics of Georgia was born, to provide students with special needs and their parents with the knowledge and skills to safely enjoy the water.  Neverland Adaptive Aquatics uses a variety of research-based strategies to meet the individual needs of their students including visual teaching aids, functional routines, multi-sensory teaching, social stories, video modelling, applied behavior analysis, discrete trial training, and so much more!
